Privacy Policy
Your privacy in plain language. This policy covers what Sherlock collects, how it handles your photo, and the boundaries it holds to. Your photo is never stored on our servers and your results stay private to you.
Last updated · August 9, 2026
This is a plain-language summary of how Sherlock handles your data. For the complete terms, read our full Privacy Policy.
01The short version
You upload a photo. Sherlock sends it to our search provider to run one search — it isn't stored on our servers. Your results are private to your account. We do not publish pages about the people you search, we do not build a face database from submitted photos, and we do not sell your information.
02Information we collect
Photos you submit. The image you provide to run a search — sent to our search provider for that one search and never stored on our servers.
Account information. If you create an account, the email and authentication details needed to sign you in and store your own results for you.
Usage and device data. Standard analytics and diagnostics (app version, device type, anonymized usage events) to keep the product working and improve it.
03Your photos
A submitted photo is sent to our search provider to run the requested search and is never stored on any of our servers. On the web, it passes through our own server only to reach the provider — a security measure so the provider's access key is never exposed in your browser — and is not retained at any point. It is not added to any public index, notattached to anyone else's profile, and not retained to train a recognition database.
04How we use information
To run the searches you request; to store your own results in your account so you can revisit them; to operate, secure, and improve the service; and to comply with the law. We do not use your data to publish public identification pages about anyone.
05What we never do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not publish public, name-keyed pages identifying the people you look up. We do not present simulated searches as real, and we do not post reviews on your behalf.
06Disclosing your information
We disclose data only with the service providers needed to run Sherlock (for example, the search and infrastructure providers that process a query) and where required by law. Your search results are not shared with other users.
07Retention & deletion
Submitted photos are never stored on our servers — they are sent to our search provider to run the search. Account data is kept while your account is active; you can delete your account and associated results at any time from the app or by contacting us.
08Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise these rights, contact us at the address below.
09Children
Sherlock is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18.
10Changes & contact
We will update this policy as the product evolves and note the date above. Questions or requests: support@imsherlock.com.
