The Method

How Sherlock works — from one photo to a closed case.

See how Sherlock works in three steps. Upload one photo, get matches ranked by confidence across social platforms and public records, and your photo is deleted after the search.

The Method

Three moves, start to verdict.

No theatrics — a real search runs behind the scenes. Step by step:

01 · Upload

Submit one photo

A screenshot or any clear photo of one face works.

02 · Search

We search that face

We check it against social platforms and public records, then score how close each match is.

03 · Results

Review your matches

You get matches ranked by confidence, each linked to its source. Your photo is deleted after.

What we don't do

The lines we won't cross.

A search tool in a sensitive category only earns trust by being explicit about its limits.

No public pages

We never publish name-keyed results

Sherlock does not create public, searchable pages that name the people you look up. Your results live in your account and are visible only to you.

No retained photos

Your photo is deleted after the search

The image you submit is used to run the search and then removed. It is never added to a public index, attached to anyone's profile, or sold.

No fake scans

Every search is real

There are no simulated animations pretending a search ran. If Sherlock shows you matches, a real cross-reference produced them — and if there's nothing, it says so.

What you can — and can't — use Sherlock for.

Sherlock is built for personal verification and safety — confirming a dating match is who they claim to be, checking whether a profile photo has been lifted from someone else, or verifying a buyer or contact before money or trust changes hands.

It searches publicly available information. It is not a consumer reporting agency and its results may not be used to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, or insurance. You are responsible for using what you find lawfully and respectfully.

The Record

Questions, answered.

How does Sherlock find someone from a photo?

Sherlock looks at the face in your photo and compares it to images across social platforms and public records, then ranks the matches by how similar they look. A real search runs every time, and nothing is faked.

What happens to the photo I upload?

We use your photo to run the search and then delete it. We never add it to a public index, attach it to anyone else's profile, or sell it.

Are my search results public?

No. Your results are private to your account and only you can see them. We don't publish pages about the people you look up.

Is Sherlock legal to use?

Sherlock searches publicly available information for personal safety and verification. You're responsible for using the results lawfully. It isn't a consumer reporting tool, so it can't be used for employment, housing, or credit decisions.

Which platforms does Sherlock search?

We cover the major social networks, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and OnlyFans, plus public records. We add more sources over time.
